The Victory Class
A commencing fleet of six boats in 1934
grew
to twenty-one for the1935 season
and
to fifty by 1941
Technical advice on the design was given by Mr. Charles E. Nicholson. He made himself responsible for designing the sail plan.
"it was decided to build a yacht
on the style of the original Bembridge boats, modernized, and
with the
up-to-date Bermudian rig,
within a "complete for sea" price of £85."
[YM 1941 p.118]
The sails, comprising Bermudian mainsail, jib and spinnaker, are made of the best Egyptian cotton and can be supplied by
Cranfield & Carter, Burnham-on-Crouch, or by Woodnutts, Bembridge.
The first captain of the class was
Commander H. M. Denham, R. N.,
who also won
most of the prizes for the first two seasons.
