Regattas (Falmouth)
1923
FP May 25, 1923: Falmouth's Regatta, Greater interest needed.
Mr. R. S. Burt thought with the Mayor, that it would be disastrous if a town of the importance of Falmouth did not have a regatta, when, as Mr. W. J. Barnicoat M.P. said, places such as Flushing, St. Mawes, Mylor and Penryn had regattas. At the same time they must get the support of the public. There was no such thing as entry money. He was given to thinking that there was about £40 in hand, but that a regatta cost approximately £100.... July 11th was mentioned as the probable date for the regatta. [see also FP June 1, 1923]

FP Friday July 11, 1924: Falmouth's Regatta. Apathetic Town Folk - Help Wanted
(Public Meeting)
Mr. Jackett said it would be a horrible thing if places like Penryn, Flushing, Mylor, St. Mawes and Port Navas could hold a regatta and Falmouth not to have one.
Mr. T. C. Burt agreed it would be a scandal if they could not hold a regatta.
Mr. R. I. Burt said he did not appreciate the way Falmouth yacht-builders were served with regard to the new Sunbeam Class, for they made a fine lot of sport. He supposed Mr. Jackett felt slighted as well. Mr. Jackett replied that he did not take the same view as Mr. Burt. “The order went to the Solent because the class was built by one man.
The little craft were of one design and the same weight. If some were built at one place and some at another it would be rather awkward.”
FP Friday 15 Aug
1924: Port Navas Regatta (Wed. 13 Aug. 1924)
Race for RCYC to a mark off the Committee Boat - a course of about 12 miles.
Flame, Tuke, was first to arrive but was disqualified for failure to round the wreck buoy at the mouth of the Helford River. He protested against the Committee's policy, stating that he had not been informed of the course.
Each of the competitors was presented with a box of “Duchy Prince” oysters from the Duchy Oyster Farm. Mr. S. Hodge (Manager) expressed the hope that the yachts would re-visit the Regatta again next year. Mrs. Hamilton (sic) (who with her husband was one of the founders of the water festival) handed the oysters to the competitors.
Results: 1. Una, Major Watson Smythe; 2. Little Lady, Cpt. Wilcox; 3. Halcyone, Mr C. P. Foster; 4. Berthe, Tresidder/Stephens; 5. Trent, H. Steadman.

FP Friday Aug.7,
1925: Port Navas Regatta - Bank Holiday [Monday 3 August]
[Same edition: Penryn Regatta; Penpol & Point Regatta]
Attracted more than the usual number of visitors, many hundreds, brought from Falmouth and outlying districts by steamer* and motor cars
* "Queen of the Fal" - Special Excursion Monday Bank Holiday, 3 August. Leave Prince of Wales Pier at 10.30 a.m. for a trip across the bay and up the beautiful Helford River as far as Calamansack. Passengers may land at Pender's Beach for Port Navas Regatta, or Helford, and return in the evening. Fare 2s. Children 1s.
The Quay was lined with spectators, as also were the adjoining fields. A fresh breeze made the sailing very attractive.
The Sunbeams provided an interesting race. They started from the RCYC at Falmouth, proceeding to the Castle Buoy, and around the wreck buoy at Helford, finishing at Port Navas. Merrythought provided a popular victory, thereby winning the Silver Cup presented by Mr. C. T. Hamerton (sic). Each owner also received a box of oysters from the Duchy Oyster Farm [in August!]. Mrs. C. Hamerton (sic) presented the cup and oysters to the owners. All the yachts finished within 8 minutes.

FP Friday Aug.14, 1925: Portscatho Regatta [Sat. 8 Aug.] Ideal S.E. breeze
Some of the finest sailing races ever witnessed at Portscatho were provided at the annual Regatta on Saturday.
This was the first time the event was held on a Saturday and the experiment appears to have been justified.
Six of the Sunbeams were present. Merrythought and Flame being absentees.
Berthe won a splendid race, Little Lady second. Una and Trent had a hard fight for [joint] third place.

Several boats took part at Fowey RYC on Tuesday [11 Aug.].
The Falmouth Sunbeams produced one of the best spectacles of the day, all the boats being well handled.

Berthe worked out a good lead, which she held throughout, Una and Trent finishing second and third.
